2020 is full of uncharted territory. Coronavirus, land hurricanes, record-breaking fires, Tom Brady is not a Patriot, IDP, and Drew’s team sucks. It’s times like these that I think back on the wisdom of Dan Boltz (intentional misspelling to throw off Google): “If you want to survive, you keep your eyes open and on the enemy. You can’t get killed if you never sleep.”

Thanks Dan.

With the added roster spots we got our first look at what scores will now look like, and a feat that was once quite rare, surpassing 200 points, which was done only 4 times in IFL history, may become commonplace, with Nick’s Dumped by Hollie showing us that right off the bat, dumping 206 points over NOSCOPE TRENT, who’s controller obviously just needed new batteries. The average score for Week 1 among all teams was 160.8 points, compared to last year’s 122.9 points, which tracks, given that there’s a plus-3 net positions. That said, we may see some 250 point performances this year.

Our game of the week lived up to the hype, as the #1 power-ranked Pop Punk Pirates and the reigning champ Tanos went down to the absolute last minute Monday night, with Gostkowski finally making a field goal for the Pirates at the stroke of midnight last night to just eek by Tanos, 157 - 155.

Our newcomers to the league had differing experiences, Qualley starting off his career undefeated, raiding Linda’s fridge, and winning 195-146 over Brady thanks to big games from Watson, Zeke, Slayton, and Mark Andrews. Austin got edged out by the genius doctor, 128-136 due to many sub-par performances, notably from Chubb, Kupp, and the Packers DEF.

Joe got a big win over the Scallon Express, 186-178, due to his brilliant Cam Newton pick, which I’m not sure how we let him get away with that. Although it’s been confirmed that his Marlon Mack tore his ACL, so not all rosey, but maybe Cam can carry him through.

Glad to see Drew lose, of course, even if it is to Jord’s benefit.

Lots to come this season. We’re just getting started.

A near reversal of last year’s divisional standings takes place in Week 1, as the back to back reigning top division Dirty Doc & the Boys get off to a slow start, and the all-time win-loss leader, Cul-de-Sack grabs the reigns.

Division Overall W-L:
CdS: 45-15
X-IA: 36-24
BSC: 22-38
DD&B: 17-43

Jord starts us off going 4 for 4 in Pick ‘Em this week, correctly predicting that Drew’s team is indeed “bad”. Qualley gets his feet wet with a solid 3 for 4 week. (For Qualley & Austin, “PC” is the "Pickers’ Consensus”). Good to see Nick and Curtis not on top for once. But that may not be for long.
