There’s a common notion that real life, especially recently, is crazier than fiction. I’ve often thought this the case with the IFL. Brady winning an IFL Superbowl to then being the worst coach in the league, to being back on top, to being one of the worst coaches in the league is a roller coaster that few would ride. Austin predicting his dramatic fall and rise and fall again in a single season was a beautiful mess to watch unfold.
But the story of Tanner is one that I would have missed had Tanner himself not pointed it out:

I (one of those Tanners) lose to Tanner Ewoldt the first game of the season.
WIN AN UNPRECEDENTED THIRTEEN GAMES STRAIGHT.
Only to lose to the other Tanner in the league in the final match up for the ship.

Tanner Hunt went undefeated against everyone in the league this season, and was winless against Tanners. To add insult to injury, the 2021 IFL Superbowl wasn’t even close. THE GROOVERS had 4 players score less than five points, whereas TC’s BLASTERS had only one weak performance by Ronald Jones, who hurt his ankle and was ruled out of the Buccs contest with the Jets.
Though Tanner Hunt dominated the regular season, it was Tanner Campbell, on his 9th consecutive victory, who would win the ‘ship, which is the second time in five years he has brought home the hardware. In fact, if you rule out his freshman season, in which he didn’t draft his own team due to schedule conflicts, TC has won the IFL Superbowl 50% of the time, and two out of the last three seasons.
Here’s what TC had to say following his win:
“Ever since I won the first [championship] it’s been a dream of mine to get back to the IFL Superbowl and was pretty surprised after going 2-6. Even during the 2-6 stretch I felt like could play against anyone with th4e amount of really good WR’s I had with Schultz. It feels amazing getting my second ring especially after defeating a team I thought was the best or one of the best before the season started and [I] highly respect the season [Hunt] had.”
When asked what he thought of many now calling him a “fantasy football god”, TC responded humbly with:
“Only way to prove them right is to win another [‘ship] and start a dynasty.”

Adding further intrigue to the Tanner storyline, Tanner Ewoldt wins the consolation championship handily, and earns best draft odds for next season. The era of Tanner may just be getting started.

Curtis may never wear an IFL Championship ring, but he is our Pick ‘Em Allfather. Winning the Pick ‘Em title for the 3rd straight year, and 4 out of 6 seasons is absolutely INSANE.
