Literally a week for the history books, as IFL historians penned 5 new entries into the All Time IFL Records.
Tanner Hunt and THE GROOVERS were responsible for 4 of those entries. Despite Joe and Brady’s Boat Bucks respectable 155.8 points this week, the GROOVERS would not be denied their place in IFL annals. Mike Williams and the Pats DEF put up twenty burgers, Justin Jefferson and Zach Ertz put up thirty burgers and the league’s new #1 scorer, Jonathan Taylor put up an extraordinary 56.9 points, in his 204 yard, 5 touchdown game. With Toney doing literally just enough on MNF, Hunt’s 215.34 points surpasses TC’s 214.38 points in the 2019 semifinal game, to make it the highest score in IFL history. UNREAL.
Jonathan Taylor’s performance, for context, pens itself into two of the entries in the IFL recordbook. The #1 performance in the IFL of all-time for an individual player as scored at the time, and the #3 performance in the IFL of all-time when adjusting past performances to the current scoring system.
Here’s the top 5 in both of those categories for your reference:
Player Performance (Week) *As Scored at the Time*:
Jonathan Taylor - 56.9 pts - THE GROOVERS - Hunt (2021 Week 11)
Alvin Karma - 56.7 pts - Hype Zone - Ewoldt (2020 Week 16)
Tyreek Hill - 53.9 pts - Joe (2020 Week 12)
Dalvin Cook - 52.1 pts - Brady (2020 Week 8)
Le'Veon Bell - 51.8 pts - Scallon Express (2016 Week 14)
Player Performance (Week) *Adjusted for Current Scoring System*:
Le'Veon Bell - 58.3 pts - Scallon Express (2016 Week 14)
Tyreek Hill - 57.15 pts - Joe (2020 Week 12)
Jonathan Taylor - 56.9 pts - THE GROOVERS - Hunt (2021 Week 11)
Alvin Karma - 56.7 pts - Hype Zone - Ewoldt (2020 Week 16)
Julio Jones - 53.8 pts - Dirty Mike & The Boys - TC (2017 Week 12)
The fourth entry Hunt penned this week - most consecutive wins in IFL history. Rounding it out to even ten straight wins surpasses the 2019 Flaming Red Hot Gingers nine consecutive wins, and of course, the scary thing is, there is room for to improve upon this freshly inked record. THE GROOVERS are averaging 10 more PPG than the next closest team on the season and have averaged 20 more PPG than the next closest team over the last four weeks.
Hunt’s win also secures himself a playoff berth, with a minimum of a wildcard spot, with the 3 weeks to go in the regular season.
The final entry chiseled into IFL bedrock, the only one not by Hunt, keeping the league in balance and our yin and yang in check, Brady ties the longest losing streak in IFL history, jointly held by TC in 2017 and Chris in 2015, at 9 games lost, losing this week to Aaron, 72 - 82. The loss eliminates ALL-TIME D from playoff contention officially. Brady, who, many years back, so many years ago that many of the younger IFL fans wouldn’t even remember it, won an IFL Superbowl, if you can believe it. Now, he’s scraping the absolute bottom rung of decrepitude. The thing about the bottom rung though, is that you can actually still fall further.
The DD&B remains status quo this week, with Jord, Jack and TC all winning, but Qualley, losing to TC, falls 3 games back in the division. Jord remains a game up.
In the Cul-de-Sack, Zach beats Nick, and Curtis loses a second straight game, which gives TC BEING SO WEIRD ABOUT IT his first divisional lead of the season.
The X-IA now becomes the wildest division, with the Hype Zone handling business against the Snyder Cut 119-99, and the Recker Rampage getting their third straight win, they enter a 3-way tie. Austin and Jesse will meet this week to further feed the drama of the division.
With three weeks to go, and the bottom wildcard spot being at 6-4 currently, 15 out of 16 IFL teams remain in playoff contention. Let’s go!
The Boy Scout Cyclones stabilize somewhat and claw their way back into 3rd. The Cul-de-Sack and Dirty Doc & the Boys continue to separate themselves.
Jesse and the Commish pull away from the pack, going 3 for 4 and 4 for 4 respectively, as Drew drops a goose egg this week.
