2022 Iowa Fantasy League Invitation

Dear IFL Coach,

My hypothesis from last year’s invitation was correct - the responsibility of fatherhood resulted in the league’s first ever 2-Time Champion going from champion to 12th place, Jack’s worst place since he entered the league in 2016.

What no one saw coming; however, was that we would have our second 2-Time Champion in as many years. TC, has now won the IFL Superbowl two out of the last three seasons, and has made it clear that a third, and “the dynasty” are his goals. Not only that, but the league may have made the grave mistake of poking the bear recently with our “Coach Ferentz being overrated” comments, no matter how true or factual that may be, nor how many FBS coaches agree with that sentiment. Brace yourself, boys.

We’re making 4 changes to the league this year:

  • Eliminating 2nd TE: We’re rolling back the addition of the 2nd TE position from last year, as we felt the health of the position was too strained with two slots required.

  • Playoff Expansion: As a way to combat high scoring teams that get unlucky in head-to-head matchups, we are changing the format of the playoffs from 6 teams to 8 teams, with the additional two teams being wildcard spots awarded to the highest scoring remaining unqualified teams. Since the top two seeds will no longer get a bye week, we will be borrowing from the MLB, and top divisional seeds will get to select their first round opponents. This will also consolidate the consolation playoffs and super consolation playoffs into a single 8-team consolation, where the winner will still receive boosted playoffs odds, and the loser of losers will still be crowned.

  • Countered Trades: Accepted trades can now be countered. Once a trade is accepted, league members will have 24 hours to “raise” the offers to the coaches of the original trade. If a counter is accepted, the original trade will be canceled, and the new trade will be accepted, which will start a new 24 hour clock, and that trade can be countered. If any trade is not countered after 24 hours, it will be automatically processed. This will effectively abolish the trade review process by the commissioner and the IFL council. PSA: if a trade is made involving players that are playing within 24 hours, the trade will not process until after that game has concluded, i.e. you will not be able to play those players until the following week.

  • Rivalry Week: This year, the Iowa Fantasy League will have its first ever Rivalry Week. This will be detailed further at a later time.

The buy-in is the same as last year’s, $60. With 16 owners, that makes the total prize pool $960. The 2021 payout structure will be as follows:

Place Awards
Champion = $342
Runner-Up = $70

The draft will start at 6 PM on Sunday August 28th.
